Project Information

Synopsis

A project of fusion and mixture of Mediterranean cultures, based upon an exchange of experiences by a group of musicians from Catalonia and Morocco, who build their artistic creativity upon both tradition and modernity, and who find improvisation to be the common denominator of their languages. From this point of view, the revised and updated tradition of amazing music (Berber) and the modernity of jazz idioms become the catalysts of this adventure. Jazz, maqam and taqsim fuse into an elegant and sincere music.

LA CONNEXIÓ ARGAN (The Argan Connection) Screenwriter and director: Jordi Call
Executive producer: Xavier Atance
Assistant producer: Núria Botellé
Sound: Aleix Quaresma
Editor: Marc Capdevila Concept: Manel Montañés
Production: Benecé Produccions S.L./ Mercat de Música Viva de Vic (Barcelona) co-produced by Televisió de Catalunya, S.A. with the collaboration of 2M TV (Morocco) Year: 2005 Summary:
The documentary aims to emphasise the normality of an artistic exchange between two neighbouring countries. This cultural normality serves to overcome excessively negative images about the relationship between Spain and Morocco. The audiovisual documentary also shows other realities such as the interests and the social and economic realities of the geographical areas where the project takes place. In addition, a fascinating second block of contents includes the day-by-day monitoring of the artists’ meetings, ways of working, rehearsals, concerts, their perception of the experience, and shows how they overcame language barriers.
